Elf The Musical 2021

Thank you for considering to perform with Encore Theatre Collective.
Can anyone sign up?
We will take applications from any child or young adult who is aged 9 or over by the 31st of July 2021. Experience or training in musical theatre is not required.
Why do I need to fill out an application?
The information you give us in this application will help us learn a little bit about you, your experiences and strengths, as well as providing us with your audition workshop availability.
Why do I need to audition?
We have a number of young people interested in being part of an Encore production. As we are only able to take just over 100 cast members we require all those interested to audition so that we can make a selection. We are expecting a large number of auditions and it is helpful for us to look at you alongside other performers your age.
What is an audition workshop?
We call our auditions workshops because we teach you all the material. They are structured like a class where we will teach you an excerpt of dialogue, a song, and some choreography to perform individually and/or in small groups.
Do I have to prepare anything for the audition?
No, everything will be taught to you during the workshop where you will then have the opportunity to perform either on your on or in a small group. You can choose whether or not you perform on your own, however, we encourage everyone to do so.
How many people will be in my audition workshop?
Aside from the Encore tutors, you will audition with others your age. It’s hard to know how many people will be in your workshop group as this will depend on the number of people your age that sign up for the workshop on the day that you have selected. We are approximating 20-40, which is around our usual rehearsal group size.
What are you looking for?
While experience in musical theatre is great, it is not necessary. We also look to select young people who are eager to learn and passionate about performing.
Where are the audition workshops?
At our usual rehearsal venue in Remuera. Info will be sent out in a confirmation email once you have submitted your application.
When are the audition workshops?
We have six audition workshops on Saturday the 3rd of July. There are two time slots for each age group, you do not attend both:
Session 1
Workshop 1 — Year 4-6: 9:30am-11:00am
Workshop 2 — Year 7-9: 11:15am-12:45pm
Workshop 3 — Year 10+: 1:00pm-2:30pm
Session 2
Workshop 4 — Year 4-6: 3:00pm-4:30pm
Workshop 5 — Year 7-9: 4:45pm-6:15pm
Workshop 6 – Year 10+: 6:30pm-8:00pm
You will be asked if you have a preference of Session 1 or Session 2 in your sign up form below. If you are unavailable for either of your specified age group time slots, please get in touch with us via email so that we can discuss:
Are the lead roles cast from the audition workshop?
No. The auditions workshops are to secure a place as a cast member in Elf. Separate auditions will be held in rehearsal on the 14th of August for those cast members who are hoping to be a lead role or part of the dance and singing troupes.
When do rehearsals start?
Our cast Welcome Day is Saturday 31st July, and marks the start of our rehearsals. This is when our cast and their families will all meet each other for the first time as well as receiving their Encore merchandise if they are a first-time cast member!
What time are the Saturday rehearsals?
Junior Ensemble (Year 4-6): 12pm-1pm
Intermediate Ensemble (Year 7-9): 1pm-2:30pm
Senior Ensemble (Year 10+): 4pm-5:30pm
Are there any important dates that I should know about?
All Saturday rehearsals are compulsory. The only exception to this is for rehearsal that falls inside the School Holiday period (Saturday 9th October). Cast members cannot miss two consecutive compulsory rehearsals, and cannot miss more than a total of three compulsory rehearsals. We cannot allow any absences after the 20th of November. If you need to discuss any rehearsal conflicts, please get in touch with us via email. You will be required to confirm your availability for other important dates in the last section of the form below.
When will I know if my audition was successful?
All auditionees will be notified of the outcome of their audition by the 19th of July.
What payment is involved?
All accepted cast members will be required to pay a $545 fee. More information about this can be found in the ‘what we do’ section.
When are the performances?
From the 17th-19th of December, however, all cast members will be required for rehearsals in the theatre from Monday the 13th of December.
Applications close on Sunday 27th of June 2021.
